Glass Experience

I first started learning glass at the Pittsburgh Glass Center in January of 2015. I took the 8 week classes in the hot shop for the next four and a half years and was in the most advanced class offered for the final two years of that. I was a TA for the introductory class and workshops for several years and in my final year I was a workshop instructor. I assisted anyone I could, but was most heavily mentored by Chris Hofmann and Julian Maturino.

Where I Want My Work To Go

I hope to incorporate more of the rich, chaotic colors of the last two 2-dimensional pieces of mine into the three dimensional glass art form. I want to explore layers of color in different layers of glass in a similar fashion to the way that renaissance oil painters would layer opaque paints beneath transparent paints in order to both create different color effects and to create the illusion of depth as the light bounces through each layer reflecting off of the thickest bottom layer. I hope to continue to explore splattered powder techniques like the one in the colorful glass hands. I hope to start to include engraving both during and after the hot working process in my practice.

Mainly, I hope to be able to find a new community to become a part of and learn from in the way I did at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. I hope to learn a variety of techniques and grow as both a sculptural and non-sculptural glassblower. I wish to never stop learning or experimenting and I aim to help other glassblowers in their efforts to do the same.
